About Fancy Nancy And Party
First published in 2005, Fancy Nancy is a young girl with a larger than life personality, who adores all things fancy. She always dresses extravagantly, wearing boas, tutus, ruby slippers, fairy wings and fuzzy slippers. A New York Times bestseller, there are now 100 titles, translated into 20 languages and which have sold 50 million copies world-wide.
Gather on The Green at The Street, Chestnut Hill, dressed in your Fancy Nancy best or Halloween costume on October 19 for a kick-off to Halloweek. In celebration of the new 20th anniversary Fancy Nancy book, Besties for Eternity.
Enjoy a reading of the new book by author, Jane O'Connor and illustrator, Robin Preiss Glasser, learn the "banana walk" (you'll see!) with Robin, and enjoy a movement session with the locally-beloved childrens dance school, Joanne Langione Dance Center.
After the event, put on your dancin' shoes for a parade to Hummingbird Books to pick up your very own Fancy Nancy crown and sticker sheet.
This event is free but RSVP is required, with an optional $19.99 add-on including a copy of the book.
In collaboration with The Street and Joanne Langione Dance Centre.
About Jane O’Connor
Jane O'Connor is vice-president and editor-at-large for Penguin Books for Young Readers. She has written more than thirty children's books. Her first adult novel, Dangerous Admissions: Secrets of a Closet Sleuthcame out in July 2007.
O'Connor came up with Fancy Nancy on a summer evening. As she describes it: "It was after dinner one evening that the title just came to me," she recalls. "I sat down and wrote the first and last paragraphs. The rest of the story took me awhile, but the beginning and the end just flew into my head."
O'Connor credits much of the book's success to illustrator Glasser's artwork. She wrote the book in 2002, but it did not come out until 2005, because her editor, Margaret Anastas, insisted on Glasser as the illustrator who was busy with other projects.
About Robin Preiss Glasser
Robin is an American illustrator, best known for her work on the Fancy Nancy series of children's books. Glasser was a professional ballet dancer before becoming an illustrator for children’s books. She was a soloist with the Pennsylvania Ballet until injuring her back. She returned to school at age 30 and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design/The New School.
In 2005 Glasser was paired with the writer Jane O’Connor to illustrate the Fancy Nancy books. The Children's Book Council named Glasser 2013 Illustrator of the Year for ‘Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet’ after more than 1 million young people cast their votes in the 6th annual Children's Choice Book Awards.
